Sigma Analytical Services Joins Global Cannabis Partnership as the First Cannabis Testing and Research Laboratory Member

Sigma Analytical Services joins global CSR leaders committed to elevating standards in the cannabis industry

Sigma Analytical Services (Sigma Analytical) is pleased to announce its membership in the Global Cannabis Partnership (GCP), an international initiative of organizations with the vision of setting the standard for corporate social responsibility (CSR) within the regulated cannabis industry. Sigma Analytical joins multiple leading organizations in the government-sanctioned cannabis industry who are committed to promoting the safe and responsible production, distribution and consumption of legal cannabis. As the first cannabis testing and research laboratory member, Sigma Analytical is committed to GCP’s newly released Responsible Cannabis Framework (RCF), to ensure practices that go beyond minimum compliance, and set an example for CSR within the cannabis industry. Sigma Analytical Services, headquartered in Toronto, Canada, is a unique full-service testing and research GMP-compliant laboratory offering comprehensive testing and analytical services, R&D and consulting in cannabis and derived products along with consulting and high-level training for set-up and operation of cannabis quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) and R&D labs. Sigma Analytical maintains a global presence with projects and laboratories spanning Northern and Central America, as well as several strategic partnerships with major analytical ‎instrument providers, testing labs, producers, service providers ‎and universities across Canada, Central America, United States, Europe and Australia.

Sigma Analytical has emerged as a thought leader in advancing the understanding of cannabis chemistry and is ‎establishing a global scientific network of pioneers to facilitate research and knowledge sharing in this ‎new and promising field of science.

“As GCP’s first full-service testing and research lab member, Sigma Analytical Services has the opportunity to help shape Global Cannabis Partnership’s commitment to corporate responsibility practices in the areas of cannabis product testing, compliance, and research and development,” says Ashton A. Abrahams, Chairman and COO of Sigma Analytical Services. “We are looking forward to our participation and commitment to the Responsible Cannabis Framework and developing industry-best practices in this nascent, and rapidly growing global industry.”

The GCP is a partnership of organizations who want to raise the bar with respect to social responsibility in the cannabis industry.

“Sigma Analytical’s dedication in research and quality in this industry is a welcomed asset to the GCP membership,” says Kim Wilson, Executive Director of the GCP. “We’re excited with this new addition and for the continued expansion of our mandate.”

One of the GCP’s first activities was to create the Responsible Cannabis Framework (RCF), which defines the corporate social responsibility (CSR) standards to which all Members agree to adhere. The RCF was released in June 2019. With the newly released framework, this is a worldwide, first-of-its-kind initiative to positively influence the industry’s impacts on the environment and society and aims to support GCP members in continually improving their corporate performance over time. New certification standards of the RCF will encourage and validate actions by members of the global cannabis industry to advance environmental stewardship, social responsibility and good governance.
